Star Wars themed weddings seem to be growing in popularity, and the bride and groom are always Han Solo and Princess Leia despite never looking anything like them.
This week 41 year old Duncan Thomson married his 39 year old fiancee Sammi Gardiner on Star Wars day, May the Fourth. (May the Fourth be with you). The ceremony took place at the Fernbank Hotel, in Shanklin, the Isle of Wight and 50 guests attended all dressed as their favourite Star Wars characters. Duncan’s 18 year old son Kieren was just tall enough to pull off the wookie costume to be best man.
If readers aren’t impressed enough by the costumes alone, Duncan and Sammi also wrote their own personal, Star Wars themed vows for the ceremony. Duncan altered his vows so they read: “I promise to protect you from carbon freezing and promise to protect you from the Dark Side, through hyperspace and into the far reaches of the galaxy.”
Duncan explained that they did have to be careful which dialogue they used for the ceremony, as Jedi is now an officially recognised religion. The couple even invited Star Wars creator George Lucas to the wedding, the large-necked Yank declined the offer but did reply to the invitation to give his congratulations.
