The 16th Annual National Dwarf Games were held in Birmingham over the weekend, and the games were opened by Olympic hero Ellie Simmonds.

14 year old Ellie, who is originally from Walsall became a national hero last year when she won two gold medals at the Beijing Paralympics, the BBC named her Young Sports Personality of the Year. And in February she met the Queen and became the youngest ever person to be awarded an MBE.

Ellie was joined at the games by another Olympic medal winner 18 year old Matthew Whorwood, who scooped two bronze medals in Beijing last year.

The games are organised by the Dwarf Athletic Association UK and were held over the Bank Holiday weekend at different locations around the Birmingham area. The DAAUK will also be organising the World Dwarf Games in Belfast in the summer, more details are available from their website.
