Veronica Lario Seeks Divorce From Italian Prime Minister

Veronica Lario, the second wife of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is said to be seeking a divorce from her husband due to his interest in young women.

52 year old Lario was today quoted in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica saying she wanted to end her 19 year marriage to the 72 year old Prime Minister, the report was confirmed by Lario’s secretary later in the day.

“I’d like to close the curtain on our married life,” Lario told La Repubblica.

This news comes hot on the heels of a scandal involving the Prime Minister and an 18 year old model. Earlier this week Veronica Lario publicly criticised her husband for attending the 18th birthday celebrations of the stunning Noemi Letizia, a young model and former Miss Tirreno who likes to appear semi-nude in magazines.

The Letizia family are said to be friends of the Prime Minister, young Noemi refers to Mr Berlusconi as “papi”. Berlusconi attended Miss Letizia’s birthday bash last Sunday and presented her with a gold necklace. Lario said of the incident:

“That surprised me, because he never attended the 18th birthday parties of his own children, even if he was invited.”

Mr Berlusconi has a checkered history for flirting with other women. Two years ago he infuriated his wife when he told former topless model Mara Carfagna that if he were single he would marry her immediately. On that occasion Berlusconi wriggled out of it by issuing a formal public apology to his wife, this time he might not be so lucky.
