Police in Los Angeles are confident they have the notorious “Westside Rapist” in custody.
The Westside Rapist was the name given to the individual who terrorised areas of Los Angeles during the 70s and 80s when he broke into the homes of elderly women raping them and then choking them until they became unconscious or died. In total the Westside Rapist is thought to have raped over 30 women, and murdered at least 17 of them.
Now Los Angeles police have linked 72 year old John Floyd Thomas Jr. to the crimes using new forensic techniques to test DNA samples. Thomas Jr. was arrested in March on suspicion of the murders of two women, Ethel Sokoloff in 1972, and Elizabeth McKeown, in 1976, DNA analysis has also linked him to two further crime scenes from the mid 70s and 80s. As investigations continue the LA detectives are confident that they can link Thomas Jr. to all the alleged Westside Rapist attacks, if convicted Thomas Jr. will be Los Angeles’ most prolific serial killer and will face the rest of his life behind bars.
Because there was no death penalty in California at the time of the crimes Thomas Jr. will escape execution if convicted.
