Piranha was a daft 1978 horror movie directed by the up and coming Joe Dante before he went on to greater things like Gremlins and Small Soldiers. It was an obvious attempt at cashing in on the success of Jaws and it spawned a similarly silly sequel by the then unknown Terminator and Aliens director James Cameron, entitled Piranha II: Flying Killers which featured, you guessed it, flying piranhas.

Well now, almost 30 years later, a third piranha movie is in the pipeline this time being written and directed by Hills Have Eyes re-maker Alexandre Aja.

The film is due to start filming next month in Arizona, not really known for it’s waterways, and is set for release in March next year. Casting is still taking place but so far confirmed actors are Elisabeth Shue of Karate Kid fame, Adam Scott who appeared in Hellraiser IV, Pulp Fiction star Ving Rhames, and perhaps most surprisingly Close Encounters and Jaws legend Richard Dreyfuss.

Most recently added to the cast is Dina Meyer who’s breasts you might remember seeing in the magnificent Starship Troopers.
