Warner Bros have this week released a press statement confirming the production of a Clash of the Titans remake.

The original film was made in 1981 and featured special effects from the legendary Ray Harryhausen, including the spectacular Medusa scenes, claymation never looked so good.

This time around one should expect CGI rather than model animation, but it has a lot to live up to. Even using such relatively primitive methods Harryhausen managed to produce the kind of awesome results which made the original film a classic.

Actors already cast for the remake include Harry Potter bad guy Ralph Fiennes and Star Wars Jedi Liam Neeson playing Hades and Zeus respectively. Terminator Salvation star Sam Worthington will also be appearing as the hero Perseus, and the lovely Gemma Arterton (pictured) last seen in Quantum of Solace will be playing his mysterious spiritual guide.

Another Bond star, Mads Mikkelsen who played the villainous Le Chiffre in Casino Royale will be a good guy in this movie. He plays Draco, one of Perseus’ comrades. Jason Flemyng who recently took the male lead in ITV’s Primeval will also be featuring in the movie playing a severely disfigured King who has been transformed into a vile beast.

For those who haven’t seen the original, shame on you, the story is a Greek mythical tale regarding Perseus and his quest to save Andromeda by defeating the evil Medusa and battling the mighty Kraken. It’s amazing!

The remake will be directed by The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier using a screenplay written by Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi who were responsible for the mental Aeon Flux. This has all the ingredients of a smash.
