The Daily Star has reported that a BBC insider has leaked details of the forthcoming Doctor Who specials concerning the Doctor’s regeneration.

It’s no huge secret that David Tennant will be passing the role over to newcomer Matt Smith at the end of the year, but details have emerged that The Doctor will go out with a bang when the inside of the Tardis is caught in an explosion.

The newspaper has also revealed that the rumours of The Master’s return are true, John Simm will be reprising his role as the evil renegade Time Lord. But more surprisingly is the news that the Doctor will face a host of evil Time Lords. Although The Doctor thought he was the only remaining Time Lord, The Master turned up during the third season of the revamped show and last week we revealed that Gillian Anderson is set to play another Time Lord, The Rani. According to the leaked information there are even more Time Lords still alive and they’ve turned to the dark side.

To add to the excitement it is also believed that the Doctor will be joined in the Christmas Specials by at least four of his former companions. Donna Noble (Catherine Tate), Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) will all be appearing in the show. The two-parter will be shown over Christmas.
