Gillian AndersonX-Files hottie Gillian Anderson is rumoured to be lined up for an appearance in the next series of Doctor Who alongside the new Doctor Matt Smith.

And the really interesting part is she may be portraying renegade Time Lord The Rani, previously played by Kate O’Mara in the Eighties. The Rani featured in two Doctor Who stories in the 1980s, she first appeared in Mark of the Rani and then returned in Time and The Rani. The character is an evil scientist who turned out to be a great adversary for the Doctor. Although The Rani isn’t quite up to The Masters level of villainy her addition to the show’s line up is very exciting news for Doctor Who fans.

Plus, the casting of Gillian Anderson who is best known for her role as Dana Scully in the smash Sci-Fi franchise The X-Files is pure genius. I can’t see any fault in giving Sci-Fi fanboys exactly what they want, the ratings should soar. Incidentally Gillian Anderson is about to perform in the theatre alongside the ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston in A Doll’s House.
