Meet Jerly Lyngdoh, the 26 year old baby.

Jerly lives in India with his illiterate parents in a small village, he is physically and mentally the same as a two year old child except for his full set of adult teeth. Doctors in India are currently examining Jerly to try and uncover why he has remained an infant for his entire 26 years. One pediatrician looking into the case, Dr. J. Ryndong told the Hindustan Times that Jerly’s condition is caused by a lack in growth hormone. However Jerly differs greatly from other types of dwarf, his condition is more like an opposite case of progeria which causes advanced aging.

“His is a case opposite to progeria, which means advanced ageing, and we have reasons to say Jerly is a rarity.” Dr Ryndong explained.

When Jerly was only a few months old his parents suspected Jerly was suffering from some kind of epilepsy, but because they were so poor they couldn’t seek proper medical assistance and instead went to a local traditional healer.

Jerly’s mother Merilda explained that her family considered Jerly a bad omen and that he should be disposed of.

“My folks felt Jerly had brought a curse upon the family and wanted him to be disposed of but I resisted,” she said.

Now 26 years old Jerly was offered help by a charity organisation and taken to Ganesh Das Hospital, but his condition is baffling the local doctors and they have openly appealed for worldwide assistance.
