Green Light For Heroes Season Four

by Peter Jolly
Green Light For Heroes Season Four thumbnail

Good news for Heroes fans, despite falling viewing figures NBC has given the go ahead for a fourth season of the show and have ordered 18-20 new episodes.

Figures suggest that the show which peaked at around 14 million viewers has slumped to around 8.5 million in the US. Here in the UK where Heroes is broadcast on BBC2 and BBC3 on Monday nights the numbers have also sadly dropped from over 4 million to around 2.5 million.

Fans on internet message boards around the world have complained about the show’s lack of direction and over complicated story arcs containing too many characters. The show’s producers have promised a more “back to basics” approach to the next season, but I would never have described Heroes as a basic kind of show to begin with. The show’s success has been down to it’s multi-character sub-plots weaving together to form a spectacular finale. That’s what people liked about the show to begin with, going back to that would simply lead them to where they are now!

Fortunately although the viewing figures have declined 8.5 million is still a very healthy and respectable figure, if the show’s producers can maintain that amount of fans it should continue for some time yet. Season four will be shown in September 2009.
