Despite last weeks wishful thinking regarding Kelly Brook becoming the Doctor’s new assistant, The Morningstarr* has learnt from an inside source that Bionic Woman and Merlin star Michelle Ryan is now favourite to snatch the role.

Ryan is cited as being perfect for the role by a BBC source. Ryan began her career as Zoe Slater on the BBC soap opera Eastenders, since then she has worked in the US playing Jamie Sommers in the updated version of The Bionic Woman and last year returned to the BBC playing Nimueh in the hit show Merlin.

Michelle originally auditioned for the part of Martha Jones back in 2005, hoping to take over from Billie Piper when she left the show. But that time round she was passed over and the part was handed to Freema Agyeman, who did do a great job it has to be said. If Michelle is successful this time round she will join the new Doctor Matt Smith in the Tardis when the show returns to our screens in 2010.

The BBC source says that Michelle has been in secret talks with the Doctor Who production company recently and an official announcement is due at any moment.

The source revealed: “Michelle’s been in secret talks with BBC bosses.

They are likely to announce her as Doctor Who’s new assistant very soon. She is perfect for the role. She is good looking and the right age to star alongside Matt. Everyone agrees they look great together and reckon fans will think they’re the perfect team too.”

The source added: “The BBC launched Michelle’s acting career as Zoe Slater in EastEnders and she will be thrilled to be back with them in such a legendary role.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for her and even though she’s had a lot of success already she is still young and at the start of her career.”

This will mean disappointment for the lovely Kelly Brook, but a sigh of relief for those worried that Lily Allen might have actually been in with a chance.
