Disabled Girl Left To Rot

This is the face of the mother who let her severely disabled 14 year old daughter starve to death lying in her own filth and infested with maggots.

Andrea Kelly has been charged with the murder of her daughter Danieal, and faces court along with nine other people including Danieal’s truant father Daniel Kelly and several social workers and some family friends. Andrea Kelly is the only defendant charged with murder, the other defendants face charges ranging from child endangerment to involuntary manslaughter.

The court in Philadelphia has heard how Andrea Kelly was embarrassed by Danieal’s cerebral palsy, she refused to take her out of the house or even touch her. Danieal was unable to help herself, and due to her mother’s neglect she lay bedridden covered in her own faeces, maggots infesting her weeping bedsores, slowly starving to death and dehydrating. Andrea Kelly ignored her daughter’s screams for help and continued feeding the rest of her children as Danieal was locked away in her own room dying from malnutrition. Although she was 14 years old, Danieal weighed only three stone when she died.

Social Service departments have also been charged with professional neglect when it emerged that social workers failed in their duties. House visits weren’t carried out, and documentation was falsified to cover their tracks. One social worker Dana Poindexter already had a bad record when a three year old baby died that he was supposed to be watching over. Poindexter was described as “slovenly, neglectful and dangerously reckless”, he didn’t file a single report on Danieal in all the time he was assigned to the case.
