Gnome Bandit Is Apprehended

A 53 year old Frenchman has been arrested in Britanny on suspicion of stealing 170 garden gnomes.

If convicted the man could face a spell in prison.

Gnome stealing is becoming increasingly popular in France, particularly on the French German border where anarchist group The Garden Gnome Liberation Front are increasingly active.

The GGLF are committed to freeing enslaved gnomes. The American branch of the organisation have this statement on their website.

“Thousands of Gnomes are enslaved in Gardens across America. For too long we have let our neighbors usurp the rights of these gentle woodland creatures.”

Garden gnomes have been a part of German culture since 1872 when they were created as a symbol of order and comedy.

Reports from Germany suggest that the gnomes are taken from German gardens and taken to France where they are set free.
