Pat ReganPat Regan, a leading figure for anti-knife campaign Mothers Against Violence has been found stabbed to death at her home. Police have arrested her grandson in connection with the murder.

Pat Regan became involved in Mothers Against Violence following the death of her son in a suspected gangland killing in 2002.

Rakeim Regan, Pat’s 20 year old grandson has been arrested by police. He was arrested the same morning that Pat was found dead for an incident where a railway security guard had been stabbed. British Transport Police were questioning him for attempted murder when Pat’s body was discovered.

Mrs Regan has been a prominent figure in the fight against violent crime, appearing on TV and radio shows and last year met then Prime Minister Tony Blair and Home Secretary John Reid.

From her home town of Leeds she worked hard for the campaign, visiting local schools lecturing on the dangers of knife crime. Three months ago she also met Princess Anne, who commended her on her good work.

Family and friends are said to be devastated as hundreds of tributes have been pouring in all day.
